Stainless steel pipes
Stainless steel pipe is mainly used in the Pakistan and its major uses to transfer of fluids in piping systems.Steel pipe make from a steel alloy containing nickel as well as chromium, which give corrosion resistant properties stainless steel.The majority of people live to use stainless steel pipe in Lahore Pakistan.

Types of steels used in Pakistan
There are 5 types of steel in Karachi,Lahore & other our Pakistan markets:
1. Ferritic – This type of steels are based on Chromium and little amount of Carbon usually less than 0.10%. Due to limited toughness in welds there are limited uses in thin sections. However, where welding is not required they offer a wide range of applications. They cannot be hardened by heat treatment.
Ferritic steels are also chosen for their resistance to stress corrosion cracking. They are not as formable as austenitic stainless steels. They have magnetic property.

2. Austenitic – The use of this type of steels is common in field. Their microstructure is derived from the addition of Nickel, Manganese and Nitrogen.. These steels are nominally non-magnetic but usually appear some magnetic response that is depend on the composition and the work hardening of the steel.

3. Martensitic – This type of steels are similar to ferritic steels on Chromium base but they have higher-Carbon levels up as high as 1%. This allows them to be hardened & tempered much like carbon and low alloy steels. These steels are used where high strength and moderate corrosion resistance is required.In these steels they have generally low-weldability and formability. They have magnetic properties

4. Duplex – The microstructure of these steels that is approximately & 50% austenitic 50% ferritic. This makes them a higher-strength than either ferritic or austenitic steels.. “Superduplex” steels have enhanced strength and resistance to all types of corrosion compared to standard austenitic-steels. These are weldable but need deep care in selection of welding consumables and heat input. They have moderate formability. They are magnetic property but not so much as the ferritic, martensitic and PH grades due to the 50% austenitic phase.

5. Precipitation hardening (PH) – This type of steels can develop higher-strength by adding Niobium, Copper & Aluminium to the steel. With a suitable “aging” heat-treatment, very fine particles form in the matrix of the steel which imparts strength.

How do I choose which steel to use? (what type of stainless steel in Pakistan)
Most decisions about which steel to use are based on a combination of the following factors:
1 What is the corrosive environment
2 What is the temperature of operation
3 What strength is required
4 What welding will be carried out
5 What degree of forming is required to make the component.
6 What product form is required
7 What are the customer’s expectations of the performance of the material.
